CLE Podcast: $10

Credit has been approved by the Wisconsin Board of Bar Examiners for 1.0 credit of Repeated On-Demand credit between the dates of May 6 and December 31, 2011. (To view the approval on the Board's website, follow this link. You might need to go to a subsequent page, since courses are listed by provider's name, and this program will be alphabetized under "R".)

Note: Even though the subject matter of this program is ethics, Wisconsin Supreme Court Rule 31.05(5)(c) does not allow the use of online on-demand programs to satisfy your ethics and professional responsibility requirement. Therefore, this program has been approved for general Wisconsin CLE credit, but not ethics and professional responsibility credit.

If you need a low-cost program to satisfy your Ethics and Professional Responsibility requirement, I will be conducting numerous telephone conference call programs between now and your December 31 deadline. The telephone conference call programs may be taken for Ethics and Professional Responsibility credit, and full details of those programs will be posted on my main CLE page.

This program was originally presented as a telephone conference call on May 4, 2011. This audio program runs approximately one hour. Click Here to View the Course Description. Program Description

Ethics Refresher 2011 (Part 1 of 6) (presented by Richard Clem). This will be a comprehensive review of the Rules of Professional Conduct for attorneys in Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Iowa. All three states have adopted substantially similar rules governing lawyers, and this course will review the rules as adopted in all three states. Where the rules differ, we will go over the differences. Seeing these differences is useful for the practitioner in that particular state, but also gives insight into the meaning of the rule in other states. And since the same model rules serve as the basis for most states´┐Ż rules, this course will provide practical guidance for attorneys in most U.S. jurisdictions. Many lawyers review the Rules in their entirety only once, and that is before they take the Multistate Professional Responsibility Exam in law school. But the rules change over the years and decades, and some of the finer points might be forgotten. Therefore, this course will serve as a useful refresher for the practitioner to avoid ethical pitfalls.

This program can be taken by itself, but is part of a longer six-hour program. This portion of the program covers Rules 1.0 through 1.6. One hour.

The program is presented by Richard P. Clem. He has a B.A. in history from the University of Minnesota, and a J.D., cum laude, from Hamline University School of Law. He has been in private practice in the Twin Cities for over 20 years. His reported cases include: Asociacion Nacional de Pescadores a Pequena Escala o Artesanales de Colombia v. Dow Quimica de Colombia, 988 F.2d 559, rehearing denied, 5 F.3d 530 (5th Cir. 1993), cert. denied, 510 U.S. 1041 (1994); LaMott v. Apple Valley Health Care Center, 465 N.W.2d 585 (Minn. Ct. App. 1991); Abo el Ela v. State,468 N.W.2d 580 (Minn. Ct. App. 1991).
